Lillian (Lily) Hoffer Long was commissioned as an Army Signal Officer in 2014 and was assigned to her first duty station with the 41st Signal Battalion at Camp Yongsan, South Korea. From there she transitioned to Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA, where she deployed with the 67th Expeditionary Signal Battalion to Baghdad, Iraq and Camp Buering, Kuwait. Following deployment, Lily attended Captain’s Career Course where she graduated in the top 10% of her class. Her following duty assignment led her to Fort Campbell, Kentucky where she earned her Air Assault qualification shortly after joining the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. After completing her Key Development (KD) time as a Squadron Staff Officer with 2-17 Cavalry Regiment and the 101st CAB HSMC S6, Lily transitioned out of the service and began her civilian career with Vita Technologies as their Defense Account Manager. In six months, she worked her way up to her current role as Vita’s Chief of Staff. Lily is married to Army Captain Matthew Long, who is attending University of Colorado Law under the Army’s Funded Legal Education Program (FLEP) to become an Army JAG Officer. In her spare time, Lily writes Young Adult Fantasy and Science Fiction novels. She is also working to obtain her MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College. Lily was born and raised in Mississippi. She graduated Valedictorian of her high school graduating class and received an Army ROTC scholarship. She attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in Liberal Studies, a hybrid degree consisting of Mandarin Chinese, Military Science, and Intelligence and Security Studies. Lily and Matthew currently reside in Erie, Colorado with their two rescue dogs.
